Creative Mothers Series – Single Mum Speaks

Welcome to the thirteenth issue in the Creative Mothers Series –  a guest series for people to share their thoughts and experiences of the impact of parenthood on their creativity.

This will be the last post in the series for a few months, but I look forward to sharing more in the Autumn. Please do get in touch using the details on my contact page if you would like to take part with your thoughts. And you can find more information about the series including the other twelve posts here

Now onto today’s post, and I’m delighted to welcome Min from Single Mum Speaks. Her blog has long been a favourite of mine – her honesty, wry humour and eloquence makes each post a compelling read.

In this piece Min shares with us the place creativity has always had in her life and the significance of that creativity for her now. These are thoughts that really resonate with me, as I’m sure they will with lots of people…

Donning My Big Blog Hat for the Day – BML16

On Saturday I attended the BritMums annual blogging conference, BritMums Live or BML16. If you don’t know what I’m talking about you can find more information about BritMums and the conference here. In a nutshell it is an opportunity to think ‘blog’ for a day – to meet bloggers, to meet brands, and to learn bloggy wisdom.

I feel compelled to share with you a little bit of my perspective on the day despite being fully aware that if you are an avid blog reader or in my Twitter network you’ll most likely have read 43 other similar posts. If you are at saturation point, toodle-oo – do come back soon! If you think you can take another ‘I woz there’ scrawl across your screen then keep reading.

I’m Going to #BML16 – A Blogging Bonanza!

Yes I’ve just used alliteration, an exclamation mark AND a hashtag in the title of this post – #amiacoolbloggernow

The reason for my foray into savvy social media mode is because in June I will be attending a blogging conference called BritMums Live 2016 or BML16 (clue was in my title). This is a HUGE blogging conference held in London and organised by BritMums – the biggest collective of lifestyle bloggers and social influencers. Ever. The conference aims to bring together some of these fantastic peeps to meet, socialise, network with brands, improve their skills and fire their creativity.

Family Fun Linky

I’m trying something a bit different this week – I am dipping my digital toe (much more pedicured that my normal toe) into cohosting a linky. And I’m very happy that the linky in question is Family Fun from the fabulous Catie at Diary of an Imperfect Mum.

I so enjoy this linky – there’s a lovely community of bloggers who link each week and share the love with lots of commenting. Catie has, if you will, created quite the blogging ‘family’ with it. See what I did there? Yep.

MAD for a BiB

I’ve seen a few posts about the MAD blog awards and the BiB awards this week and it seems like part of the entry process to write one, so here is my nomination information post, plea, and general three minutes of discomfort.

I’ve decided to do a bit of throwing: I’m throwing my hat into the ring, throwing down the gauntlet (possibly), throwing caution to the wind, throwing up (oh no wait, that’s another post)…yes I’ve taken the slightly unnatural step of nominating my blog (and others, I’m not completely meglomanical) in the Brit Mums annual blogging awards, the BiBs. I did this and felt all overcome so haven’t even thought about the MADs but perhaps I maybe will.

Anyway I’m sure you can all relate to how weird this feels; self promotion doesn’t come naturally to many people I don’t think. I feel all a bit Jekyll and Hyde about it. Without the murder though, so maybe not Jekyll and Hyde, maybe just terribly English.

Allergic to ‘E’

I was challenged by PinkPearBear to take on the ‘Allergic to E’ challenge. The challenge is to write a paragraph without using the letter ‘E’ funnily enough.

I love playing with words, ‘E’ is one of my favourite letters too, and this gave my brain something fun to think about during another sleepless night.

So thank you PinkPearBear! And here’s my short post, all about our new garden. I’ve completely cheated at the end, but apart from there if you see any other ‘eee’s tell me! My eyes were seeing them everywhere and nowhere by the end!

Occupation: mum
Jobs: this and that, bits and bobs
Today: lawn laying

Morning finds this mum looking at soil. No rain today, so quick with turf rolls to avoid soft mounds turning into mountains of mud. I lay out a lawn, a patch to catch sunlight. I look as my son finds a grassy spot to play on; to run and jump; to play football or twirl hula hoops.

Now it is night time, my son is snoozing upstairs. I crack on with a vino and sit in moonlight. A frog and a bat join my company now. Good pals no doubt, but no comparison for a small blond darling…my sun, my son.

I look forward to watching my grass as it grows,
along with my child. How big? Who knows.

But for now I will sit light and happy,
thinking of how I lost all my ….eeees!
