Hello,
Welcome to my blog. I’m Lucy…early 30s, two children, living in the south of England. I am currently an almost-full-time mother and a barely-part-time freelance writer. I’m fill my blog-shaped pocket of the Internet up with memories, thoughts and rambles (for me) shared in, hopefully, an entertaining way (for you).
I teeter on the funny side, but you’ll find a whole range of topics and emotions covered. I host a guest writer series, Creative Mothers; it’s a space for people to reflect on the impact of parenthood on their personal creativity. Submissions always welcome!
WHAT’S IN A NAME?
My blog name stems from an irritation when filling out forms as a mother. I no longer had a box to tick under ‘occupation/profession’ that was relevant to my identity. In trying to work out my new place in society I was frustrated by the dismissive and reductive labels applied to mothers who chose to temporarily leave paid employment in order to be the full time carer for a child.
Not just on forms, but in general….the forms just distilled the stereotypes into an irritation point that, for me, spawned a blog. I didn’t want to tick housewife, nor homemaker. I felt ‘other’ but also that ‘other’ wasn’t good enough. My well-placed brackets (regardless of what Facebook thinks) also refer to the wider me – I’m a mother but I’m also lots of other things too…

Hi Lucy
I just popped by to say hi. Your blog is lovely. I am also a full time mum (for now) and have a 6 year old boy.
I currently review adult books but would like to talk about children’s books on my blog a little further down the road 🙂
I am also looking excited about introducing my son to some of the great classics that I remember from my own childhood.
I’m looking forward to exploring the rest of your blog.
Nicola xx

Hi I’m a new blogger and just discovered your blog, it really speaks to me & I love your style of writing. I’m a ‘stay-at-home’ mum too and whenever I have to tick that ‘housewife’ box it makes me chuckle inwardly at the idea I’m married to my house that’s just nonsense but also every time I think ‘state of my house right now’ ha. Looking forward to reading more of your posts. 🙂
