Brilliance. It’s not generally a word I associate with myself…you know, ‘what three words best describe you?’. Yes, well funnily enough brilliant, brilliance, brill are just not on the list. ‘Brr’ could sneak on at a push…I’m a cold type, but the ‘illiant’ doesn’t make the cut.
So where’s this going? Well today the shortlists were announced for the BritMums Brilliance in Blogging Awards…the BiBs for ease. Oh it was lovely to see so many of my favourites on the lists…and then I saw my blog name. My actual blog, brackets and all, right there in the Readers’ Choice category.
I’m super flattered and excited, and thankful to everyone who voted for me (the first time, just wait!) but it got me thinking. Maybe, just maybe, I should stop being so English about the whole thing and I should start bandying around ‘brilliant’ a bit more in my head when thinking about myself!?
So, hey ho, in for a penny and all that…here are some shortlists of brilliance that I’m sure I’d be a shoo-in for:
Brilliance in the runaway metaphor
Brilliance in being grumpy before 7am. Wake me at your peril small one
Brilliance in imaginary marathon running
Brilliance in crafts…if crafts consist of monster snowmen and ‘hungry caterpillars’
Brilliance in redefining ambition
Brilliance in turning legs into fireman’s poles for toddler to slide down (I’m getting less brilliant at this as the toddler gets heavier mind you!)
Brilliance in singing. A lot and badly
Brilliance in turning into the terrifying Tunnel Tickle Monster
Brilliance in Lazy Parenting
Brilliance in navigating nap-free days
Brilliance in surviving hotel-based toddler endurance tests
Brilliance in clock cakes, well one clock cake. Once. And yes I’m sharing this photo again…regular readers could start playing drinking bingo with it
Apparently none of these shortlists exist and so now I need to do the bit in this post I’ve been putting off…the terribly uncomfortable, I’ve-already-asked-you-once-and-now-I’m-asking-again bit…
If you think it’s sad I won’t be a finalist in any of the made up awards above then never fear, with your help I could, possibly, maybe (probably not) be a finalist in the Brilliance in Blogging Readers’ Choice category! All you have to do is vote before May 18th here.
It goes without saying, but then nothing does really when we’re bloggers, how very grateful I’d be. Ultimately I enjoy blogging, not for awards (which is lucky!) but because I really love writing and I have really loved getting to know you all over the last year through your comments and your blog posts. It’s a rambly plea I know, but I am just incredibly excited to be listed in these shortlists alongside some actual real-life examples of blogging brilliance.
